An afternoon on Cromer pier – that is how I have spent this afternoon.
There is logic in this decision! I feel that my photographs lack a certain wow factor and as consequence I have acquired a mentor to help me. In order for me to improve my composition, he has advised me to use just a 35mm lens for the next six weeks!
My first attempt had been the Harley Davidson shoot for Sheringham carnival – 35mm, manual focus and I was quite pleased with the results. Check out my previous photo blog.
You cannot imagine how difficult this has been considering I have been used to using long lenses. The whole idea is to engage with one’s subject. 35mm allows you to chat closely whereas using more than 100mm, and in my case, up to 200mm lens one’s subject is somewhat distant and cannot develop a rapport with them – unless you shout!
In addition, I have wanted to try out street photography which means one has to get in close to the subject and not be embarrassed.
I came across a very interesting quote which links both my use of the 35mm lens and street photography – “On the street if you are zooming then you are too far away. Get in amongst the action.”
Believe me, it takes courage.
So this is my first attempt at 35mm plus street or should that be pier!
Please feel free to comment on my attempts
